KATE WALZ

Horticulturalist, Garden Designer and Floral Designer

From a young age, Kate has loved all things growing and blooming. However, it wasn’t until after she graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and then lived in New York City for a few years that she decided to turn her childhood passion into a profession. She enrolled in the Urban Horticulture & Design program at Farmingdale State College, New York. There, she studied landscape design, soil science, herbaceous and woody plants, floral design, entomology and plant propagation – just to name a few! She graduated with honors and now holds an AAS degree in General Horticulture.

Located in Port Washington, NY, on Long Island’s north shore, Kate initially created KW Gardens Design as a way to help local homeowners create new and/or update existing gardens with fresh color palettes and seasonally interesting plants.

With a green thumb and a creative eye, Kate set out to launch KW Gardens & Flowers a few years later, incorporating floral design into her design repertoire. Not surprisingly, as a passionate gardener-florist, she creates natural arrangements centered around colors and textures found in the garden. Her designs have a natural, whimsical, garden style. In particular, Kate likes to use locally grown and seasonal flowers when possible. She believes it’s important to support local and domestic flower growers as much as possible.

Kate loves to play with color combinations, plant textures and forms in both her garden designs and flower arrangements. Each and every design she creates is personal and unique. She believes that plants and flowers make people happy. They improve a person’s well being, productivity and happiness. And providing that for others, is what makes Kate happy.
